A Pheromone is a chemical that is produced by one animal that has an effect on other members of its species.

Pheromones are often volatile substances that spread through the air, triggering a response from animals some distance away.

Different pheromones are used to signal different things, for example, alarm pheromones, sex pheromones, food trail pheromones and there are many more that trigger a natural response in other members of the species.

The use of pheromones among insects has been well documented, there is also evidence that some vertebrates and some plants also use pheromones as a method of communication.
