The Ayres Uakari is a newly discovered species of monkey. It was found by Jean-Phillipe Boubli of the University of Auckland after following native Yanomamo Indians on their hunts along the Rio Aracá, a tributary of the Rio Negro in Brazil.
Ayres Uakari was named after the Brazilian biologist José Márcio Corrêa Ayres.
The name Uakari is pronounced Wakari.
