Solar Powered Hornet Found; Turns Light into Electricity

The oriental hornet's colors contain power-producing pigments

(December 21, 2010) A new study says that the Oriental Hornet has built in "solar cells" that generate electricity from sunlight.

It was already known to science that the species produced electricity inside its exoskeleton, but now scientists have taken their research a step further and they have found out how the electricity is produced.
