Symptoms
Sunburn occurs on non-pigmented (pink) skin and it commonly affects the muzzle. The skin becomes very pink and scabby patches develop which can become infected.
Treatment
To treat Sunburn, keep the horse out of the sun and apply a soothing antibacterial ointment.
Prevention
Sunburn can be prevented by using topical sunscreens or by keeping susceptible horses stabled on very sunny days.
