Main Characteristics
African Golden Cats are medium sized cats and they have a body length between 61 and 100 cms (24 - 39 inches), a tail length between 16 and 46 cms (6.5 - 18 inches) and they weigh between 5.5 and 16 kgs (12 - 35 lbs). They are coloured grey to reddish brown and they can be either plain or have faintly spotted markings.
Habitat
African Golden Cats are found in the tropical rainforests of western and central Africa. They are solitary and can be active during the day or night, depending on their location.
Diet
African Golden Cats mainly feed on rodents, birds, hyraxes, small antelope, monkeys and domestic livestock.
Breeding
After a gestation period of approximately 75 days, 1 - 2 young are born. The youngsters are weaned at 6 - 8 weeks and they reach sexual maturity at 18 months old.
